ResurFx

What is ResurFx?

ResurFX is a fractional non-ablative laser meaning it doesn’t remove the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin), which results in less downtime and a faster recovery period. It is primarily employed for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments. ResurFX utilizes advanced laser technology to improve the appearance of the skin by addressing various concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and uneven skin texture.

How does ResurFx work?

ResurFX is a fractional laser, which means it only treats a fraction of the skin’s surface during each session. This approach is less invasive than traditional ablative lasers, which remove the entire top layer of skin. Fractional lasers create microthermal zones (tiny columns of heat) within the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This promotes faster healing and reduces downtime.

Microthermal zones of laser stimulate collagen production. Improvements in the skin’s appearance are gradual and become more noticeable over several weeks to months, as collagen production continues, and the skin continues to regenerate.

Over time, as collagen production increases, the treated skin undergoes a process of remodeling. This leads to improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness. Fine lines, wrinkles, and scars may become less noticeable as the skin’s structural support is enhanced.

What are the applications of ResurFX?

  • Wrinkle reduction and skin tightening: ResurFX can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck, and décolletage by stimulating collagen production and improving skin elasticity.
  • Acne Scars and Surgical scars: It is effective in treating acne and surgical scars by promoting skin remodeling and reducing the visibility of scar tissue.
  • Age Spots and Sun Damage: ResurFX can target pigmented lesions, such as age spots and sunspots, by breaking down excess melanin and promoting even skin tone.
  • Stretch Marks: The laser can improve the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating collagen production, which can lead to smoother and more uniform skin texture.
  • Uneven Skin Tone and Texture: It is used to enhance overall skin texture and reduce the appearance of rough or uneven skin.
  • Skin Rejuvenation: ResurFX treatments can provide an overall rejuvenating effect on the skin, making it look more youthful and refreshed.

The effectiveness of ResurFX treatments can vary depending on the individual and the specific condition being treated. The number of sessions required, and the results achieved may also differ from person to person.

Recovery time is relatively short compared to ablative laser treatments. Patients may experience some redness and mild swelling immediately after the procedure, but these side effects typically subside within a few days.

Your ResurFX consultation

During your consultation with a Coastal Skin and Eye dermatologist, they will review your medical history and inquire about any underlying medical conditions, allergies, medications you are currently taking, and previous cosmetic procedures.

They will carefully assess your skin’s condition and listen to your aesthetic goals and specific skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, age spots, and overall skin texture, and desired outcomes. They may use specialized tools or imaging devices to examine the skin’s surface more closely. They will also explain how ResurFX works, its benefit and expected results including any potential risks or side effects associated with the procedure.

Based on your skin assessment and goals, the provider will create a personalized treatment plan. This plan will outline the recommended number of ResurFX sessions, the intervals between treatments, and the laser settings that will be used to address your unique concerns.

You are encouraged to ask any questions or seek clarification on any aspect of the treatment plan, including the procedure itself, recovery, and post-treatment care. You will also receive guidance on pre-treatment preparations, which may include avoiding sun exposure, discontinuing certain skincare products or medications, and following a skincare routine to prepare your skin for the procedure.

How many ResurFx treatments are needed?

The number of ResurFX treatments commonly recommended can vary depending on several factors, including the specific skin concern being addressed, the individual’s skin type, and their desired results.

Recovery from ResurFx

The recovery time following a ResurFX treatment can vary from person to person, depending on factors such as the treatment intensity, individual skin characteristics, and the specific skin concern being addressed. However, here is a general timeline of what to expect after a ResurFX treatment:

  • For the first 24 hours you can expect some redness and mild swelling in the treated area that should subside within a few hours to a day. the skin will feel warm or may feeling like a sunburn. Cool compresses and gentle moisturizing can provide relief.
  • For the next 48 hours the skin may feel tight or dry and rough as the microthermal zones begin to heal. It is crucial to avoid direct sunlight and use a board-spectrum sunscreen outdoors.
  • Days 2-5 the treated skin will begin to peel and flake as the damaged layers are shed. This helps reveal fresh, rejuvenated skin.
  • Days 7-10 residual redness and swelling diminish, and makeup can be used to conceal residual redness.
  • Over the coming weeks to months your skin will continue to improve as collagen production increases, leading to smoother texture and reduced fine lines and wrinkles. The full benefits of ResurFX treatment may take several months to become fully apparent, and multiple sessions may be needed for optimal results.
  • Results can last up to two years
